A successful business leader, innovator, investor and marketing executive, Mark Gonsalves has spent a lifetime leading businesses through periods of rapid change. Like you, he is tired of watching partisan political food fights when America’s mounting problems demand courageous leadership now more than ever.
Mark David Gonsalves, 59, was born in New Bedford, Massachusetts, the son of first generation Americans, Beatrice and Lenine Gonsalves.
He is a graduate of the University of Massachusetts at Dartmouth, where he earned a BS degree in Accounting.
Upon graduation, Mark started his career in IT recruitment at Corico Corporation in Salem, NH. After three years, Mark was recruited by New Boston Associates in Woburn, MA to pioneer a new IT Recruiting Division. Within 6 months it was the top performing division in the company. Thereafter, Mark founded Integrity Software Resources, Inc. in Lynnfield, MA.
After several years in business Mark was recruited to become Vice President of Sales & Marketing at Adams Golf, a small golf club manufacturer in Richardson, Texas. Within a year the company grew 4-fold, to $4 million in sales, reaching profitability for the first time in the company’s 9-year history. Three years later sales grew to $90 million and was named by Inc. as the 4th fastest growing private company in the United States, before going public in 1997.
In 2001, Mark and his wife Donna purchased a private buying club franchise in Dallas and renamed it DirectBuy. He engineered an innovative television marketing plan that expanded the company network from 67 to 168 locations within 4 years. DirectBuy was sold to a private equity firm for $550 million, an increase in valuation of over $540 million during that time.
After the company was sold, Mark became a real estate investor in both the United States and Mexico, buying undervalued premium properties, improving and reselling them.
Mark has also taken special assignments in a number of companies in need of new vision and leadership. He has served as CEO of the Hank Haney International Junior Golf Academy in Hilton Head, SC. Most recently, he directed the acquisition of Nature’s Brands Inc., known for their portfolio of over 150 Certified Organic products in personal care, body care and whole-food supplements and rebranded a UK-based nutritional supplement company.
An avid golfer and sports enthusiast from his college days where he earned Honorable Mention All-American Division III Golf honors, he continues to support young golfers in competition.
Mark and his wife Donna have resided in Johns Creek for the past five years and are the parents of one daughter, Taylor, currently enrolled at the University of Alabama.
